Information for new tenants

When does the rent have to be paid?

Rent is paid four times each year. With your first payment of half the semesters rent plus the deposit you accept your offered accommodation. A pay-in slip will be sent to your e-mail address for the next rent installment.
  • Students who start their studies in August pay the remaining rent, for fall semester, by October 31. Rent for the spring semester is to be paid by December 31 and March 31.
  • Students who start their studies in January pay the remaining rent for spring semester by March 31. Rent for the fall semester is to be paid by July 31 and October 31.
Make sure you pay your rent punctually. Failure to do so may result in the loss of your accommodation.

Insurance

Whether you rent a room or an apartment, you should take out domestic insurance (hemförsäkring). As the tenant, you are responsible for your accommodation, irrespective of whether you are to blame for any damage or if it is caused by your friends. Note as well that neither the landlord nor Bostad Västerås can be held responsible for any theft or loss of your personal possessions. You must contact an insurance company to open a subscription. A few insruance companies in Sweden are Länsförsäkringar, Trygghansa and Folksam.

Keys

Keys are collected on campus during the introduction days (we will inform you of our time schedule with the offer of accommodation) or at Bostad Västerås office downtown Västerås during office hours. You have to bring identification by valid ID.

Take good care of your keys! When you move out you must return all the keys you have been given. For the security of our costumers, we always change the lock when even one house key has been lost. Changing an apartment lock including keys can cost between SEK 1000 and 2000, depending on the lock and the number of keys involved. We reserve the right to change prices at any time.

How do I get my post?

When you inform friends and acquaintances, make sure you write your address correctly. You will find the correct address of your accommodation on the rental lease. You collect your own post from your post-box. The post-boxes are normally placed in the main entrance of the building. Remember that as a tenant you are responsible for post, even any direct mail advertising sent to you. You may not dump post and advertising material on the floor or the top of the post-boxes, etc. You have to make sure it ends up with all the other waste paper for collection.
